Duo pay visit to Foundation programme.

Leeds United duo Gaetano Berardi and Rebecca Hunt recently paid a visit to the 'Corner Flag Cafe' with the Leeds United Foundation.

The 'Corner Flag Cafe' project is a monthly meeting delivered by the club’s official charity for people suffering with early-onset dementia.

The defender and midfielder met with participants and family members who take part in the sessions that are held at Elland Road in the Eddie Gray Suite.

During the visit the players also spent time learning about the programme and how it benefits those that attend every month. The sessions give them the chance to get out, socialise and talk about all things Leeds United - they look through old programmes and footage of old Leeds United fixtures to help stimulate their memories and experiences.

This visit was the perfect opportunity for the two players to talk to them about Leeds United today and for them to share their own stories from the past back when they used to go and watch their beloved team every week.

During the sessions the participants are also offered help from Leeds City Council's Peer Support Service for people living with dementia, along with being treated to ground tours, video presentations and guest appearances.

Leeds United Ladies midfielder Rebecca Hunt spoke to LUTV during the visit and said: “I’ve loved coming along today and meeting everyone. A lot of them were really interested in women’s football but they didn’t know much about it so they were asking questions and I was telling them how we’ve been getting on.

“They were then telling me and Gaetano all about their fondest memories of the club. I think it’s great that these sessions are actually held at Elland Road especially in the Eddie Gray Suite, he was such a fantastic player and it gives them a chance to reminisce about him and a great time in the history of Leeds United back when Eddie was playing.”
