THOMAS CHRISTIANSEN: WE HAVE TO STAND TOGETHER

Head coach disappointed with Reading result.

Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen spoke to the press following Saturday’s loss at Elland Road.

The Whites suffered a third Sky Bet Championship defeat in a row at the hands Reading, as former Leeds loan man Modou Barrow secured Jaap Stam’s side all three points.

Christiansen felt his side were worthy of more after coming away with nothing against the Royals.

“I’m disappointed, we did almost everything we could to take the three points in the second half, but in football things like this happen,” said Christiansen.

“In the first half, particularly in the first 25 minutes, we had problems, our build up play was too slow, but we did much better in the second half and created more chances than Reading.

“I believe we deserved if not to win, at least take on important point from the game, but we have to work hard to come back and improve the confidence which has brought us to this position.

“It is a lottery when you take a penalty, you have the opportunity to score or miss, but I can’t complain about Pablo Hernandez, he took responsibility in the last minute, but I need every player to take responsibility over the 90 minutes.

“As a team we have to stand together and fight in this difficult moment, in this league anything is possible, but we need to work even harder to take the positives from the second half.

“We will work on the players mentally, after three defeats it is hard, but there were improvements in several areas against Reading.

“Of course there are a lot of things that we need to do better and we will work on that.”

Christiansen also spoke about the decision to give goalkeeper Andy Lonergan his first league start since he returned to the club over the summer.

“I have been thinking about the goalkeeping situation for a while and the things that Andy could give the team and I thought he played well.

“Right now it is Felix’s turn to be on the bench and he will wait for his opportunity to come around again, like all of the players.”
