FAYC Preview: Leeds United vs Liverpool

Whites back in Youth Cup action.

Leeds United Under-18s will be looking to reach the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup for the first time since 1998 as they welcome Liverpool Under-18s to Elland Road on Thursday evening.

In what has been a memorable campaign so far for Rob Etherington’s side, the young Whites have beaten Norwich City, Brighton & Hove Albion and Sheffield United to reach the quarter-finals, with the Reds now standing between United and a final-four clash with Millwall.

Goals from Marley Wilson and captain Dan Toulson kicked off the campaign for the Whites at Carrow Road, before a Max McFadden brace, an Alfie Cresswell header and Wilson's second of the tournament recorded an emphatic 4-0 win on the south coast.

Wilson’s third in as many matches, an audacious acrobatic effort at Bramall Lane, had put United on course to edge past Sheffield United in the previous round, but Billy Blacker swept home from the edge of the box to take the tie to penalties.

Up stepped Scotland youth international Rory Mahady to be the hero for Leeds, saving twice in the shootout to seal a spot in the quarter-finals.

U18s v SUFC

Liverpool scraped past Fleetwood in the Third Round in dramatic fashion, courtesy of Jayden Danns' 94th-minute winner away from home.

The Reds followed that up with a resounding 7-1 victory over Arsenal in the Fourth Round before goals from Lewis Koumas, Kieran Morrison and another for Danns saw the Reds run out 3-0 winners against Fulham last time out.

The two sides have already met once this campaign in Leeds' first home match of the U18 Premier League North. Goals from Lleyton Brown and Harvey Vincent helped the Whites race into a two-goal lead at the break, before a Josh McDonald brace added gloss to the scoreline for United. Danns did pull a consolation goal back for the visitors late on as it finished 4-1.
