Mark Jackson’s Under-23s side put in a hard-working display away at Tottenham Hotspur Under-23s, to come away with a point, which they will feel could have been three.

Sam Greenwood’s second half penalty was cancelled out late on by a Jezreel Davies header at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in North London.

The first shot on goal came from the hosts, with the lively J’Neil Bennett getting a shot away, which flew narrowly wide of the post.

Straight on the front foot down the opposite end, Max Dean had two early opportunities to test Josh Oluwayemi. The Tottenham stopped would come out on top on both occasions, making two good saves to deny the United forward an early opener.

Bennett was causing problems again shortly after. He found space on the edge of the box to have another powerful strike, which was well deflected wide of Kristoffer Klaesson’s right-hand post.

After the early exchange of shots, chances were at a premium down either end. It wasn’t through a lack of effort or good football, but the defences at each end had stayed on top in the first half.

When another close opportunity did arrive, it was through a set-play. Leeds had pushed bodies forward towards the end of the opening 45 minutes and won a corner. The ball was whipped in and found Nohan Kenneh, who flicked a header narrowly wide.

The whistle to end the first half in North London went shortly after, sending the teams in on level terms in this Premier League 2 encounter.

HALF TIME: Tottenham Hotspur 0-0 Leeds United

Leeds made a substitution to begin the second half. Lewis Bate left the pitch in a straight swap in his deep-lying midfield position, being replaced by Jack Jenkins.

The second half was saw a couple of early shots from each side as they came out looking to go ahead in the game. Max Robson had a good chance at the front post for Spurs but placed wide, whilst Leeds couldn’t take advantage from their early set-plays.

When the deadlock as broken, it was from the penalty spot. Dean continued to cause problems like he had in the first and the striker was brought down in the box. There was no hesitation from the spot as Greenwood fired home into the bottom corner to put Leeds ahead.

Spurs kept searching for an equaliser though and forced Klaesson into another good save. This time it was Dermi Lusala breaking forward from the back who tested the ‘keeper, but was denied.

Into the final 10 minutes, Jackson’s side came within a fingertip of extending their lead. Amari Miller struck a powerful, goal bound shot, only to see the ball tipped over the bar at full-stretch by Oluwayemi in the Spurs net.

With just a couple of minutes left, the home side equalised and in doing so, secured a point. A free-kick on the wing was dangerously whipped into the middle where second half substitute, Davies, was there to head home.

The whistle went shortly after and it meant both teams had to settle for a point in what had been a relatively close match, between two teams looking to try and win the game.
