Patrick Bamford: It was important to win

Striker reflects on Middlesbrough win.

Patrick Bamford was on the scoresheet on Monday evening, in the 4-3 win against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

After going behind early, Leeds United’s number nine more than played his part in the thrilling fightback, with five goals coming in the first 45 minutes between the two teams.

Speaking to LUTV after the match, Bamford gave his reaction to the match.

“It was a good game, wasn’t it!” The forward began.

“It was good for the neutral I would say, but to be honest, watching the last 10 minutes from the bench was horrible!

“It was important to win. It didn’t matter how or what we had to go through to get the three points, it was just making sure at the end that we came away with the win.

“It doesn’t matter how we play now, obviously we have got our processes and we want to play the football everyone has watched us play this season.

“But, at the end of the day, it’s about getting the three points.”

Scoring his ninth goal of 2024, Bamford cleverly turned home at close range from Junior Firpo’s cross deep into the Boro box. The forward told LUTV that the move was planned, pre-match.

He explained: “I expected the keeper to come out and take it when it bounced!

“I said to Junior before the game, and he knows every time he has a chance to put it in, that I will make the run.

“Whether he does or doesn’t put it in, I will make the run to be there as an option.

“In the end, I controlled it in with my stomach, which looked a simple goal but it was quite difficult, actually!”
