Daniel Farke: We needed to show some steel and resilience

Manager gives his reaction to Boro win.

Leeds United claimed an important three points away at Middlesbrough on Monday evening, recovering from going an early goal behind to come out victorious on Teesside.

The Whites scored four goals, with Crysencio Summerville netting twice, along with efforts from Patrick Bamford and Willy Gnonto as they ran out 3-4 winners.

Speaking after the match had finished at the Riverside Stadium, Daniel Farke gave his thoughts on the game to the media.

He said: “I think first of all, it’s a good advertisement for Championship football.

“All the supporters have enjoyed the game, a great piece of football with two sides who wanted to win the game.

“Massive compliments to my lads to win these three points, after the game started in the worst possible way for us.

“To show such a reaction and create so many chances, score four fantastic goals, it was a great first half.

“Compliments also to Boro, they showed a fantastic performance, but a great mentality from our players to be 3-2 up at half time.

“It was important to calm them down and their nerves down a bit, and then work more on our structure.

“We controlled the game more in the second half against the ball, allowed them possession where they can’t hurt us.

“Then, the last six minutes was a crazy piece of football, their goalkeeper was more in our box than theirs!

“The stadium was awake and you feel the pressure because you want to win that much, with a few players with knocks on the pitch, so it was difficult.

“We needed to show some steel and resilience to dig in and grind it out and we did this.

“Many compliments for the heart, mentality and character of my players today and for their offensive quality.

“The lads know we’re in the crunch time period of the season and how important it is to be here with results.

“You could see this in the celebrations.”
