Preview: Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds United

A look ahead to this weekend's Yorkshire derby.

Another Yorkshire derby is on the cards this weekend for Leeds United, with Daniel Farke’s side making the short trip down the M1 to face Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night, with kick off at 8pm.

Under the Hillsborough lights, the Whites will be looking to extend their strong start to the year which has seen them collect 31 points from a possible 33.

Last time out in Sky Bet Championship action, a first-half strike from Dan James, the winger’s 11th of a terrific campaign to date, proved to be enough as United beat Stoke City at Elland Road.

Leeds sit third in the league standings, just two points behind second-placed Ipswich Town as the promotion race enters the last 10 games of the season.

Sheffield Wednesday, meanwhile, have enjoyed an up-turn in fortunes since the appointment of Danny Rohl.

In 25 matches since replacing Xisco Munoz in October, the 34-year-old German has guided the side to 11 wins and two draws, giving the Owls a fighting chance in their bid for survival.

A 1-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle last time out leaves Wednesday level on points with 21st place Huddersfield Town, only remaining in the drop zone by virtue of goal difference.

The two sides have already met once this campaign, with the Whites being held to a frustrating goalless draw at Elland Road earlier in the season.
