Leeds United and Coventry City drew 1-1 at Elland Road, with both goals coming in the second half, through Crysencio Summerville and Bobby Thomas.

The first half was relatively uneventful, with both teams looking to figure one another out, and being restricted with their chances on goal. 

Having our first effort, Joel Piroe looked to test opposition goalkeeper Brad Collins early on. He saved well and turned the danger away, in an outcome that would be repeated throughout the game.

At the other end, Illan Meslier was then called into action. He dived to his left and pushed away City captain Ben Sheaf’s curling effort. 

Leeds were seeing plenty of the ball and did have moments in and around the Coventry area, but the hosts would stand firm.

A penalty appeal then came when Dan James went down under some pressure when through on goal, but nothing was given.

In final chances before the interval, Joe Rodon saw his header go off target, with Georginio Rutter also firing an effort the wrong side of the post when well placed. 

The opening 45 minutes remained goalless and when the whistle sounded for the interval, both teams headed to their respective dressing rooms on level terms. 

HALF TIME: Leeds United 0-0 Coventry City

Now under the floodlights of Elland Road, the second half got underway with the same XI’s on each side which began the game. 

A stop-start match continued, with plenty of stoppages for small fouls. Leeds were in control of the ball, but couldn’t gain much forward momentum against a defensive visiting backline.

However, a moment of quality arrived in the 58th minute to open the scoring. Georginio showed strength and composure, then played the ball in behind the Coventry defence for Summerville, who superbly curled into the top corner to give Leeds the lead. 

Daniel Farke’s side continued to try attacking after going in front. Georginio shot narrowly over, before James stung the palms of Collins again, who did well to push the ball away to safety for another time. 

The away side then equalised. Finding space at the back-post, Bobby Thomas rose highest to head into the back of the net from Tatsuhiro Sakamoto’s deep cross.  

Looking to respond quickly, Summerville was next to force Collins into a save and from the follow up, Piroe fired the rebound over the bar. 

Collins would continue his impressive game between the posts for the away side. Georginio went on a trademark run through everyone before having a powerful effort saved, then moments later, the ‘keeper would deny the forward once again with a low stop this time.  

The Whites went to the bench with just over 10 minutes to play. Patrick Bamford, Willy Gnonto and Joe Gelhardt all came on. 

Despite the best efforts and a big chance for James, created by Gelhardt in stoppage time, no further goals arrived and the points were shared.
