Leeds United were back in league action on home turf for the second time this week, taking on Bristol City.

The Whites had beaten Queens Park Rangers at Elland Road on Wednesday evening and now returned to face the Robins, who were full of confidence coming into the game, having also won in midweek away at Rotherham United.

Daniel Farke made two changes coming into the game, with Glen Kamara and Dan James back in the XI to face Nigel Pearson’s side.

Leeds had two good chances early in the match. Sam Byram played Crysencio Summerville in behind and he crossed for Georginio Rutter, but the striker couldn’t hit the target.

Moments later, Ethan Ampadu collected the ball in space on the edge of the box and struck powerfully left-footed, only to see Max O’Leary make a strong diving save to deny him.

In a tight first half where Leeds had seen much of the ball, the pressure eventually paid off and the opener arrived. Georginio crossed in from the right and arriving at the back post was James, who slotted home left-footed.

The Robins had barely been forward in the match but inside four minutes of added time, they would equalise through Kal Naismith.

After the initial effort was deflected wide of the goal and a corner was awarded, Naismith rose highest in the box to flick a header into the back of the net to level the scores, with the whistle going for the break just after.

No changes were made at the break, allowing both sets of players who started the match to come out and search for a winner.

With the first real effort on target after the break Leeds retook the lead. Glen Kamara played the ball to op-scorer Joel Piroe on the edge of the box, who steadied himself before firing home, low into the back of the net.

In what had been a scrappy game, chances were few and far between, as each team exchanged possession and battled away in the midfield areas.

One that did came was created by the quick feet of Georginio. He broke through midfield and played it left to Summerville, who progressed into the box and shot left-footed, only to see O’Leary make a top-quality save to tip the ball onto the post and wide.

Moments later and the same combination went close again. This time Georginio crossed to the back post for Summerville who connected at full-stretch, but couldn’t quite guide the ball onto the target.

The chances were now flowing again, and Leeds did eventually have the ball in the net, but the flag denied them this time. Sam Byram saw his goal bound effort saved by O’Leary and Georginio converted the rebound, but was adjudged to be offside.

A huge opening at the other end meant Leeds had to stay concentrated and alert. Sam Byram was perfectly positioned to clear off the line from Andreas Weimann’s header, following a corner.

Inside the final 15 minutes of the match, Farke went to his bench on three occasions to help secure the three points. Jaidon Anthony and Patrick Bamford were first to enter, followed by Liam Cooper, Luke Ayling and Ilia Gruev in stoppage time.

Following six additional minutes, the final whistle sounded and brought the game to a close, securing another three points for Farke’s side as they head into the international break.
