Leeds United extended their unbeaten league run to five matches with a goalless draw at Hull City on Wednesday evening.

Daniel Farke’s side were on top for the first hour of the match, but after being reduced to 10 players, they remained solid to make it three clean sheets on the bounce and add another point to their Sky Bet Championship tally.

In what was a passionate atmosphere at the MKM Stadium, the home side looked to start quickly and get on the ball in the opening period. The Whites were never really threatened though, and only had to deal with some early pressure from corners.

The first real chance fell the way of Farke’s team. Dan James created some room 20-yards or so from goal, but his strike was off target.

Just over 20 minutes in, Leeds were forced into an early change. Willy Gnonto had received treatment earlier in the half and could no longer continue, being replaced by Crysencio Summerville on the wing.

Two good chances followed after the change. Georginio Rutter was played through one-on-one from Summerville’s pass, but Ryan Allsop stood tall in the Hull goal to deny him.

Just a minute or so later, Summerville went alone this time. He cut in from the wing, leaving two defenders behind him and smashed it towards the top corner, only to see Allsop save well again.

Those chances had really livened this Yorkshire derby up, with both sets of players looking to try and get forward to break the deadlock. Continuing the Leeds chances, both Summerville and then Archie Gray had further efforts blocked on goal.

No further moments of note arrived before the interval, meaning the teams went into their respective dressing rooms on level terms, despite their best efforts.

HALF TIME: Hull City 0-0 Leeds United

Leeds started the second half on the front foot and quickly had two very good chances. Luke Ayling pulled the ball back to the edge of the box for James to strike, but his effort was blocked into the path of Summerville, who saw a last ditch block deny him as well.

On the hour mark, the game changed, and Hull had a man advantage. Having been booked in the first half, Joe Rodon picked up a second yellow card for a foul on the halfway line and was sent-off.

Farke went straight to his bench and returning from injury, Liam Cooper was brought on in place of Joel Piroe, whilst Jaidon Anthony entered the game at the same time for James.

Shortly after, Hull made a double change of their own. Scott Twine and Liam Delap were the duo replaced, with Ozan Tufan and Tyler Morton coming on in their place.

With 15 minutes to go, it was still Leeds who had the better chances. The latest of which came to Rutter after good work on the wing from Ayling again, but the forward struck his effort just wide of the post.

Hull finally did have a big chance in the game and it looked a certain goal. Aaron Connolly broke free on the wing and squared it for Adama Traore, who had an open goal and was yards out, but somehow struck the post.

That was a major let-off for Leeds and would be the final chance of the game.

Despite six minutes of stoppage time, no more chances came and with a player-less than their opponents, the Whites secured another important point and clean sheet.
