Jesse Marsch: We have to stay positive and focused

Head coach previews Leicester match.

Jesse Marsch has spoken with the media ahead of Thursday night’s Premier League trip to the King Power Stadium.

The Whites will face Leicester City in a match that will see both teams going out looking for three points.

As always, the head coach began with an update on the fitness of his squad.

“Adam Forshaw is coming back from injury but feeling really good,” Jesse began.

“Stuart Dallas and Archie Gray are still injured.

“Pascal Struijk picked up a bit of an injury and won’t be available tomorrow but we’re hopeful he will be available for Sunday.

“Junior Firpo will start [at Leicester], he will be ready. He’s been patiently waiting and trying to make sure he’s sharp fit and strong.

“I’m excited for him to have his opportunity and show he’s ready.”

Despite a strong performance against Arsenal at Elland Road last weekend, the game ended in defeat for Marsch’s side - but he’s viewing the positives from the display.

The head coach said: “We feel that we’ve clearly made progress as a group.

“I’ve sat here a lot and said we like our team, we feel we have potential in this group, but it’s been hard to pick up the points we feel we deserve.

“Often it comes in the form of not scoring enough goals - which helps you command the game more in the way you would want to.

“We have to stay strong in our belief and our work and know that with the law of averages, or if we keep developing in this way, eventually we will put ourselves in a position to be successful.

“We have to stay positive and focused on the next match and do everything we can to fight for every single point.”

Thursday’s opponents sit bottom of the Premier League table currently, but the United head coach feels that the table certainly doesn’t reflect their ability and is expecting a tough test.

“They are better than the last placed team in the league for sure,” Marsch stated.

“They are good on the ball, they are very dangerous in transition moments, they’ve still scored good number of goals, defensively they’ve given away a bit too much.

“Going there and knowing they got a positive result and now having two matches at home and a chance to gather momentum in their season… we’d be very foolish to not expect them to be ready for a big performance!

“We’ve talked about what we want the match to look like, we’ve talked about what to expect and now we have got to be able to execute that.”
