Leeds United complete deal for Tyler Adams

Midfielder joins the Whites.

Leeds United are pleased to announce the signing of USA international Tyler Adams from German Bundesliga side, RB Leipzig.

The 23-year-old joins for an undisclosed fee and has penned a five-year deal at Elland Road, running until the summer of 2027.

Adams began his career with New York Red Bulls and was handed his MLS debut by then head coach Jesse Marsch in April 2016, against the San Jose Earthquakes.

He earned his first USA Cap in November 2017 against Portugal and has since gone on to make a further 29 appearances for his country, scoring one goal.

At New York Red Bulls, Adams helped the club win the MLS Supporters’ Shield and he made a total of 74 appearances in all competitions, before being snapped up by RB Leipzig in January 2019.

In the second half of the 2019/20 campaign, the defensive midfielder made his UEFA Champions League debut against Tottenham Hotspur. The German outfit went on to finish third in the Bundesliga and reached the semi-final of the Champions League.

The following season, he featured 37 times across all competitions, with RB Leipzig finishing as runners-up in the Bundesliga, in what was the club’s joint highest league finish ever.

At the start of last season, Adams was reunited with Marsch when he was appointed head coach of RB Leipzig and he had a key role to play in the heart of the midfield as RB Leipzig won the German Cup for the first time in the club’s history.

He now departs the Red Bull Arena having made a total of 103 appearances over his two-and-a-half year stay at the German club and once again links up with Marsch, along with his USA international team-mate Brenden Aaronson.

Adams becomes Leeds’ fifth signing of the summer transfer window following the arrivals of Aaronson, Darko Gyabi, Rasmus Kristensen and Marc Roca.
