Preview: Wolves v Leeds United

Preview: Wolves v Leeds United

A look ahead at Friday’s trip to Molineux.

Leeds United are taking on Wolverhampton Wanderers this Friday evening, in match number 30 of the 2021/22 Premier League campaign for each side.

Both the Whites and Wolves go into the match on the back of wins in their previous fixtures. Three points each last Sunday saw Joe Gelhardt net a dramatic stoppage time winner against Norwich City, whilst England defender Conor Coady got the only goal of the game for his side away at Everton.

The two sides will now meet at Molineux for the 8pm kick-off, with the match being shown live on Sky Sports in what is expected to be another exciting encounter, where both teams will be looking for all three points.

Having claimed their first victory under new head coach Jesse Marsch last time out, Leeds are currently 16th in the Premier League table. The gap to 18th placed Watford - who also won their last match - is four points. After Everton’s late win on Thursday evening against Newcastle, the battle for position in the bottom half is intensifying each match week.

Wolves are in an important fight of their own, with European football still firmly within their eyesights. Currently sitting in 8th spot, Bruno Lage’s debut campaign has seen his side impress many. They are five points behind 4th placed Arsenal, but just four behind Manchester United in 5th, and two points behind West Ham and Spurs who sit directly above them.

In recent times, Friday fixtures have been productive for Wolves. From their last five matches on this day of the week, they have won four and drawn once, securing four clean sheets in that time. Their recent record against the Whites has also been impressive, being unbeaten in the last six meetings.

The man in the middle will be Kevin Friend. The official has overseen two Leeds matches so far this season, which firstly was the loss at home to West Ham, before then being in charge for the victory at home to Crystal Palace. He has taken control of just the one Wolves match this season, which saw them run out 2-0 winners away at Tottenham Hotspur in February.
