Marcelo Bielsa: Lee Bowyer was an important player of Leeds United

Head coach on Charlton Athletic.

Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa spoke to the media ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture with Charlton Athletic.

The Whites head to The Valley, looking for a sixth successive away win in the division, a run which has seen Leeds concede just one goal on the road this season.

Bielsa spoke about Charlton, managed by former Whites star Lee Bowyer, and what he is expecting as Leeds look to remain at the top of the table.

“First of all, Lee Bowyer was an important player of Leeds and we can distinguish him in front of us,” said Bielsa.

“Charlton are a team who have started well in the Championship, but every team has ups and downs and anybody can win or lose against everyone.

“I’m not surprised with Charlton’s start, what makes the Championship special, is the distance between teams, before every match you can think one team will win, but after the match, it sometimes happens and sometimes doesn’t happen.

“If you see the Premier League top six teams, they are real favourites, they can lose any matches, but not all of them, but in the Championship it is not like that, it is the opposite.”

Bielsa also gave an update on team news ahead of the clash in London.

He said: “We believe we are going to be able to count on Adam Forshaw.

“Pablo Hernandez will not be available to play because of a muscular problem.

“He felt that in the warm up of the last match, but today it is not good and he is not well enough to play, so Helder Costa will play.

“Helder is prepared and ready, I am happy for Helder, but sad for Pablo.”
