MY SEAT MY TEAM: PAUL HECKINGBOTTOM

We can do this together.

Leeds United head coach Paul Heckingbottom has seen already seen how the support at Elland Road can play a major factor in a success future for the football club.

“I grew up around it, I’ve always known the power these fans have - they can drive our lads on and they can scare the life out the opposition,” said Heckingbottom.

“I experienced it as a player it and as a coach, but what I witnessed in my first home game was something I’d never seen before - the fans decided we weren’t going to lose, the scarfs went up and the roof came off Elland Road.”

With Leeds 2-0 down at home to Bristol City at half time, Paul’s first home game looked set to end in disappointment until the chants of ‘We are the Champions, Champions of Europe’ broke out across Elland Road creating a fierce atmosphere for the opposition which resulted in a 2-2 draw, with second half goals from Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Kemar Roofe.

“It was unbelievable, all the players came off disappointed not to have won a game we trailed 2-0 in and you could hear them talk about the fans being the twelfth man for days to come.

“Players have to earn the fans respect here, nobody gets a free ride, but when they do the rewards are clear to see and hear.”
