THOMAS CHRISTIANSEN: WE LOST THE GAME IN THE FIRST HALF

Head coach on Cardiff City defeat.

Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen spoke exclusively to LUTV after Saturday’s match with Cardiff City.

The Whites were defeated 4-1 at Elland Road by Neil Warnock’s side and were again reduced to ten men.

United are still looking for a first win in 2018 and Christiansen was disappointed with the performance.

“It was not the result we wanted, we had the possibility to face a direct opponent for the top six and we believed we would have done a better game than what we did,” said Christiansen.

“We lost the game in the first half, we were down 3-0 and once again we picked up a red card.

“Gaetano Berardi already had a yellow card when he went to the ground and in these situations we need to be more clever, when players have already been booked.

“The opportunities we are having to create to score goals is also big right now.

“We had two very good chances in the first half, which we should have scored from and if you don’t put them in, it is difficult to win the game.”

Defender Pontus Jansson was also stretchered off for the Whites during the first half and Christiansen spoke about his prognosis, with the Whites now looking thin at the back, due to injuries and suspensions.

“Pontus’ injury is not looking good, he has an ankle problem and it is another player who will miss the next games, along with Berardi and the other players who are suspended and it is difficult to make a team right now.

“It is very difficult to compete in the Championship with so many players out, but we have to fight with who we have and stick together.”
