MATTHEW PENNINGTON: WE ARE IN A DECENT POSITION

Leeds United defender Matthew Pennington was upbeat ahead of Tuesday’s Sky Bet Championship encounter with Derby County.

The Whites welcome the Rams to Elland Road, looking to get back to winning ways after successive defeats on home soil.

Despite recent form, Pennington is pleased with where the Whites still find themselves in the table, going into the Halloween fixture.

“I missed a few games at the start of the season, but my aim is to try and consolidate my place in the team now,” said Pennington.

“The Championship is a tough league, each game is different, but I am here to learn and get better and hopefully I can do that.

“This is a place where I can play games and gain experience, this is a massive football club for me and it is brilliant to play football here.

“In football you are only as good as your last game, when we beat Bristol City everything was brilliant and because we got beat by Sheffield Untied, it isn’t so good anymore.

“Now we are focusing on the next game which is Derby County, we are looking forward to it and hopefully we can put things right.

“If you look at our league position in the table now, it is a strong position to be in, the form of late hasn’t been as good at the start of the season.

“We are looking forward, the Championship table doesn’t lie, we are in a decent position, I don’t think there is a problem at the minute, if we can get a couple of results now it will all look good.

“After a defeat the whole fan base and city is down and when we get a win it is brilliant, to get that for a football game is brilliant.

“A club like Leeds should be going into every game looking to win and get the three points, we want to do that to keep pushing up towards the top of the table.”
