GARRY MONK: WE FEEL HUGELY DISAPPOINTED

Head coach on Burton Albion defeat.

Leeds United head coach Garry Monk spoke exclusively to LUTV following Saturday’s defeat at Burton Albion.

Two quick-fire goals in the second half from Marvin Sordell and Michael Kightly, gave Burton a 2-1 victory at the Pirelli Stadium.

The defeat meant the Whites slipped further behind in the race for the Play-Offs and Monk felt his side deserved more from the game.

“We are obviously very disappointed with the result, mainly because we feel it is a bit of an unfair one,” said Monk.

“We were the better team in the first and last 15 minutes of the first half and in the second half we were pushing and trying to win.

“Unfortunately for us we made a mistake right against the run of play for their first goal and I think it shocked the players.

“We were dominating, we had them pinned back and we looked the most dangerous team, but we got punished heavily for our mistake.

“From that we didn’t regain our composure quick enough and they got a quick second goal.

“We feel hugely disappointed because making the Play-Offs is now out of our hands and the defeat is very raw at the moment.

“We have a duty though, to fight for everyone and our fans in these final two games, we want to finish on a high at Elland Road.

“Whilst there is still a small chance, we have to go for it and we will all be trying to do that.”
