GARRY MONK: READING ARE AN EXCELLENT SIDE

Head coach on Reading.

Leeds United head coach Garry Monk spoke exclusively to LUTV ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Reading.

The Whites are looking to get back to winning ways and make it a second straight win at Elland Road.

With Kalvin Phillips suspended following his sending-off at Brighton, Monk will be forced into changes and he gave an update on the current injury situation ahead of the clash with the Royals.

“We have a few bumps and bruises from Friday but we have recovery strategies in place and everyone will come through that,” said Monk

“On the pitch we are expecting everyone to be available, barring Eunan O’Kane and Pablo Hernandez, along with Kalvin who is suspended.

“Liam Bridcutt is coming back, he is fit, but whether he is ready to play a game though, is something I need to decide.

“Liam has come back in good condition, I have a responsibility not to force players back, but he is ahead of where we thought he would be.”

Reading come to Elland Road as one of the form sides in the division, with five wins in their last six fixtures and Monk is expecting a tough proposition, but is hopeful his side can bounce back from defeat last time out.

“There was disappointment on Friday and we take it a lot harsher now, which is a good sign because we have set a high standard for ourselves,” said Monk.

“Good can react straight away and we have done that this season when we have suffered a negative result and that is something we hope to do again.

“We need to be at our maximum at every game, because when we know we do that we have a chance of getting results and that is something we want to do on Tuesday.

“Reading are an excellent side, Jaap Stam has gone in there at the start of the season and done a wonderful job with them.

“We want to keep Elland Road a fortress, last time out the atmosphere was unbelievable and we want to re-create that again tomorrow.

“Now we have two home games, we have to try and maximise the points out of them, it will be a difficult task in both games against two very good sides.”
