Jack was the oldest and longest serving of the three Milburn brothers, all full-backs, who played for Leeds in the 1930s, Jack (his real Christian name was John), was an uncle of Jack Charlton who would play for Leeds 20 years later.  Milburn was an ex-miner who Leeds signed from the Spen Black & White pit team.  He was known in training to have a really hard shot but his career took on a new dimension in 1932 when he was elected Leeds United’s penalty taker.  He was rarely off-target and went on to set a club record in 1935/36 when he scored eight times from the spot.  Was ever-present in three of his ten seasons and is in the Top 20 all-time appearances list.  He also played nearly 50 games, not included in his total here, during World War II.

Strange but true: Jack Milburn was right footed but played on the left to make room for his brother George at right-back.
