England Calls For United Youngsters

Leeds United have had five players selected for the England Under 16 training camp at Lilleshall from Thursday September 1 to Sunday September 4.

In addition four other United youngsters have been placed on stand-by for the camp.

"We are absolutely delighted," United's Academy manager, Neil Thompson, said. "We are up there with the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United. In fact, we have more players going down to this camp than any other club."

All nine youngsters are from the Yorkshire area. The five going to the camp are Daniel Rose, who attends Danum Technology College at Doncaster; Tom Taiwo, St Mary's Catholic School, Menston; Michael Woods from Woldgate School, York; Tom Lees of King James School Knaresborough and Liam Darville from Broomfield Primary, School, Northallerton.

Selby High School pupil Jason Mycoe, Stefan Connor from Lawnswood High School, Tom Elliott of St Michael's College, Leeds, and Ben Gordon from Hanson School, Bradford, are the youngsters on stand-by.

"These are good young players with potential and they are sensible lads as well. Hopefully they will continue to improve and develop as players. It is also recognition for the Academy for the hard work put in over recent years," Thompson said.
