Leeds United Under-21 duo Connor Ferguson and Scott Godden dropped into a Healthy Holidays camp at a local primary school recently, delivered by the Leeds United Foundation.

Funded by Arla, the scheme runs throughout the half-term holidays at different schools across the city, with coaches from the club’s official charity hosting fun workshops and activities for young children in a safe environment. The local youngsters participating in the sessions are also given breakfast, lunch and food hampers to take home during the week to support those families that may usually rely on free school meals.

During their visit Connor and Scott tried their hand at designing football kits with the youngsters, chatting about their journeys in football so far and answering any questions the children had, ranging from their favourite goals for Leeds to whether they preferred Erling Haaland or Jude Bellingham!

Rachel Newman, Healthy Families Lead, said: “We have run the camp for four days this week and are doing different sports, activities and health and wellbeing workshops. Today, we are holding a ‘design your own kit competition’ and the players were on hand to pick two winners out!

“The kids absolutely love that they have Leeds United players here at their school and that they are participating in the activities that they do on a regular basis. They were so excited! It was a surprise, so they were really shocked to see both players here and really excited for them to be a part of the day.”

Getting involved in the activities brought back fond memories for Connor, who was pleased to be able to help out with the foundation, he said: “We have joined in today and the kids were creating their own kits, so we have gone round and helped out. I have really enjoyed it because when I was younger, I did camps like this, so it was nice to feel like we were giving back.”

Scott mirrored that sentiment, adding: “It is good to get involved in the local community, we are lucky and fortunate in our position so obviously to come and see the kids is really nice and to help out and put a smile on their faces is great.”
