Leeds United fans are being urged to ‘march on cancer’ with Yorkshire Cancer Research this Giving Tuesday (December 1).

Following delays in the diagnosis and treatment of people with cancer due to the coronavirus pandemic, the charity is hoping fans will join in the global day of giving and raise vital funds to help research in Yorkshire continue.

Yorkshire Cancer Research is the official charity partner of Leeds United for the 2020/21 season. Throughout the year, the two organisations are working together to raise awareness of the world-leading research taking place in Leeds and across the region.

Giving Tuesday started in the US in 2012 as a day to give back, falling on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It now takes place officially in more than 60 countries and raised £14.2 million for UK charities last year.

Dr Kathryn Scott, Chief Executive at Yorkshire Cancer Research, said: “The Giving Tuesday campaign is all about taking something positive from 2020 and making a difference at the same time. The pandemic has had a devastating impact on people with cancer. Research has never mattered more.

“Donations will help vital research continue in our region, including pioneering studies at the Bexley Wing in Leeds. We are working hard to bring the very best treatments and diagnosis methods from across the world to Yorkshire so people living here can benefit from the latest advances.”
