Thank You To TransUnion

Club pay tribute to club partner.

Leeds United Executive Director Paul Bell has paid tribute to club partner TransUnion as the South Stand is dedicated to the late Norman Hunter.

Following the announcement made earlier today that the iconic stand at Elland Road will now be known as The Norman Hunter South Stand, the club wanted to thank the current South Stand sponsor for their support with the project.

Paul Bell said: “We wanted to find a fitting way to honour Norman’s legacy and we knew that renaming the South Stand would be the perfect long-term tribute. It was really important for us to get the blessing from our stand sponsor TransUnion first, who not only agreed to the change but actively encouraged us to push on with the idea, and we are incredibly grateful for their support.”

TransUnion’s Colin Rutter commented: “TransUnion is very proud to be the official sponsor of the South Stand and it’s a wonderful gesture for Leeds United to name the stand after Norman Hunter – a fitting memorial to a true legend.”

Norman, who passed away last week following a short battle with the COVID-19 virus, helped Leeds rise from the Second Division and was at the heart of the defence as the club became champions of England twice and Inter-Cities Fairs Cup winners twice, along with successes in the 1968 League Cup, 1969 Charity Shield and 1972 FA Cup making 726 appearances along the way.

He won a total of 28 caps for England and was in the 1966 World Cup winning squad, whilst was also the first winner of the PFA Players' Player of the Year in 1974.
