U21s Preview: Leeds United vs Everton

Resurgent Whites host Toffees in the PL2.

Leeds United Under-21s will be looking to make it three Premier League 2 wins in a row as they welcome Everton Under-21s to Thorp Arch on Monday.

Scott Gardner’s side followed up last week’s emphatic 3-0 victory over Derby County with a professional display on Tyneside over the weekend, with Luca Thomas grabbing a brace as the Whites beat Newcastle United 2-0 at Whitley Park.

Goalless at the break, a Magpies handball inside the area presented the forward with a chance to open the scoring from the spot and he needed no invitation, finding the bottom corner to put United into the lead.

Thomas would grab his second 10 minutes from time, showing superb foot work to dart past black and white shirts into the box and then having great composure to finish beyond Aidan Harris to seal the three points.

Those back-to-back wins has seen Leeds leapfrog both Derby and Newcastle, currently sitting a point ahead of Monday's opposition Everton.

Despite goals from Charlie Whitaker and Katia Kouyate, the Toffees fell to defeat last time out as they were narrowly beaten 3-2 by Blackburn Rovers on home soil.

The Merseyside outfit have struggled to find form of late, but did notably pick up a victory away at league leaders Tottenham at the beginning of March, thanks to Omari Benjamin's 70th-minute winner in the capital.

The tie was originally scheduled to be played in January, with the playing surface at the LNER Community Stadium failing a pitch inspection. Action from Thorp Arch gets underway at 1:30pm.
