U21s preview: Nottingham Forest vs Leeds United

Under-21s in league action on Saturday.

Leeds United Under-21s have a chance to return to winning ways as they face Nottingham Forest Under-21s in the Premier League 2 this weekend.

Despite exiting the Premier League Cup last time out with a 3-2 defeat against Chelsea, Scott Gardner’s young side were impressive on the day in York and would have progressed to the final four, if not for an inspired performance by Blues goalkeeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe.

After falling behind somewhat against the run of play, the Whites deservedly drew level thanks to a quick-fire double from Alfie Cresswell and Joe Snowdon before the break, with Zak Sturge's second-half strike proving to be the difference for the London outfit.

With two games in hand on Manchester City directly above them, United have a chance to rise up the table as they look to finish the PL2 campaign strongly.

Nottingham Forest meanwhile currently sit 19th in the league standings, having picked up three wins in their last five outings, including a 3-2 success away at Chelsea previously.

Goals from Jack Nadin and Detlef Esapa Osong saw the Reds lead 2-1 at the break in the capital, with Archie Whitehall ensuring the points late on at Kingsmeadow.

The two sides met in the Premier League 2 Division 2 Play-Off Final last campaign at Elland Road, with the Whites recording a resounding 3-0 victory to earn promotion back to the top-flight, thanks to goals from Georginio Rutter, Jeremiah Mullen and Kris Moore.

Action from St. George’s Park gets underway at 1pm.
