PJT Preview: Bolton Wanderers vs Leeds United U21

Papa John’s Trophy clash on Tuesday night.

Leeds United’s Under-21s are back in Papa John’s Trophy action on Tuesday evening, when they travel away from home to take on Sky Bet League One side, Bolton Wanderers (7:00pm).

The Whites are playing their second match in Northern Group B of the competition, after previously winning a thrilling opening encounter away at Tranmere Rovers, with a 5-3 scoreline, having fought back from two-goals behind.

Bolton have played twice already, securing one win and one draw. Back in August, Wanderers comfortably dispatched of Crewe Alexandra with a 4-1 victory, before following that up with a 2-2 draw at Prenton Park against Tranmere - with the home side winning the penalty shoot-out.

All matches have to have a winner on the night, with a penalty shoot-out deciding who is awarded an extra point should the 90 minutes end in a draw. Every team in the group plays each other once.

The group is still tight and all four teams can still progress in the competition. The final game of the group for Michael Skubala’s side will be away at Crewe Alexandra, whilst Tuesday’s clash against Leeds is the final match of the group stage for Bolton.

All three of Leeds’ matches will be played away from home at this stage, with home games only being introduced for Under-21 teams in the knock-out phase of the competition.
