Mateusz Bogusz’s second half goal secured Leeds United’s Under-23s a fourth successive victory in the Professional Development League. 

Pascal Struijk had the first opportunity of the match.  Barry Douglas crossed in a free kick and at full stretch the defender could only prod an attempt wide.

Jordan O’Brien had a great chance to break the deadlock in the 12^th minute when he was played in on goal, but Illan Meslier made a fine stop to deny him.

Three minutes later, Ryan Edmondson had a great chance when he got on the end of the Leif Davis cross, but he could only head wide when well placed.

A Douglas cross almost found the net, but for Joe Wildsmith’s save, before Bryce Hosannah went close with a near post flick on at a corner.

At the other end, Fraser Preston sent Sam Winnall into the Leeds box, but Meslier was alert to come out and make a good low save.

Seven minutes from the break, Leeds nearly took the lead.  Robbie Gotts and Jordan Stevens combined well and Stevens’ cross was met by Edmondson at the back post and he saw his header cannon back off the crossbar.

Three minutes into the second half, substitute Jack Clarke weaved his way into the box.  His shot was blocked before landing with Eddie Nketiah who saw his strike saved.

Leeds took the lead in the 55^th minute, following some good build up play, Alfie McCalmont’s low cross was met by Bogusz who provided a great low first time finish.

Edmondson had another good chance when Nketiah played in the forward, but he was denied by Wildsmith.

A well worked corner resulted in Bogusz shooting just over from 20 yards, before Nketiah found the back of the net when he slotted home Struijk’s rebounded shot, but he was ruled to be offside.

Liam McCarron then cut in well from the right before firing over as Leeds pushed for a second.

The Owls had a good opportunity to get back into the match in the 73^rd minute, O’Brien and Winnall combined well, but O’Brien opted to go for a goal from a narrow angle, rather than tee up Winnall and he could only fire wide.

Bogusz fired a 25 yard free kick just inches over the crossbar, before O’Brien latched onto a long ball forwards, but once more Meslier was alert to come out and make a low save.

Edmondson had a chance to seal it late on following a break by Nketiah and Clarke, but he couldn’t get the better of Wildsmith and the Whites saw out four minutes of added time to claim all three points.
