Preview: Leeds United Women vs Norton & Stockton Ancients

Whites back in FAWNL Division One North action.

Leeds United Women will be looking to build on their resounding victory over York City Ladies as they welcome Norton & Stockton Ancients to Garforth’s Bannister Prentice Stadium.

The Whites were in fine form in front of goal during the week, with Jess Rousseau getting Simon Wood’s side off to the perfect start with a goal inside the first 30 seconds.

The striker would go on to grab her second of the evening and Leeds’ third on the stroke of half time, after Gibraltar international Charlyann Pizzarello had put United into a two-goal lead with a superb free kick from the edge of the area.

Rousseau completed her hat-trick shortly after the break, instinctively finishing past Rebecca Sidwell in the York goal after meeting Ruby Waldron's inch-perfect cross into the box.

Midfielder Alice Hughes rounded things off for the Whites with a stunning strike from the edge of the area, leaving United just a point behind fifth-placed Stockport County and with two games in hand on the Hatters.

Those goals for Rousseau sees the striker jump to second in the race for the golden boot, two behind Hull City sharpshooter Helen Lynskey’s tally of 15.

Since falling to defeat against the Whites last month on Teesside, Norton have won one of their three matches with a solitary victory coming in a 3-2 home success over strugglers FC United of Manchester.

Last time out, the Ancients fell to a heavy defeat on the road at local rivals Durham Cestria, with Abby Holmes grabbing a hat-trick for the hosts.

A first-half strike from Katie Astle was enough to separate the two sides when they met in February, but Norton did record a victory over the Whites when they travelled to Yorkshire last season.
