Preview: Norton & Stockton Ancients vs Leeds United Women

Whites return to league action.

Leeds United Women travel north as they face Norton & Stockton Ancients in this weekend’s FAWNL Division One North clash, with kick off coming at 2pm.

In what has been a very stop-start 2024 for Simon Wood’s side, postponements and cup duties have seen the Whites play just three times in the league this year.

A dominant display against Doncaster Rovers Belles saw United earn the Yorkshire bragging rights in a 4-2 win at home, before being edged out on Teesside by Middlesbrough despite Jess Rousseau’s early goal.

A return to the north east followed, as Leeds ran out 3-1 winners last time out at Chester le Street. Goals from Ellie Dobson, Leoni Price and a 10th of the campaign from Rousseau sealed the three points in difficult conditions at Moor Park.

Currently finding themselves sixth in the table, Wood's side have four games in hand on top of the table Middlesbrough, who sit just 11 points clear of the Whites.

Despite edging past local rivals Chester le Street during the week, Norton & Stockton have found consistency hard to come by as they look to drag themselves clear of the relegation zone.

An emphatic 5-1 win away at Chorley kicked the year off for the Ancients, before falling to defeats at the hands of Hull City and Doncaster Rovers Belles.

A late Bianca Owens goal last time out sees the former Newcastle United striker join Leeds sharpshooter Rousseau on 10 for the campaign, one behind the Hull City's Helen Lynskey as the golden boot races heats up.

With the sides yet to meet this season, Leeds will be looking to avenge last year’s results, which saw Norton complete the double over the Whites on their way to a seventh-place finish.
