Wednesday 7th December marks 25 years since the passing of our former captain and manager Billy Bremner.

Billy passed away on December 7, 1997, two days before his 55th birthday after suffering a suspected heart attack, but he will never be forgotten by the legions connected with Leeds United.

Bremner made 773 appearances during a 17-year playing career with the club and was the legendary skipper of Don Revie's great Leeds United side.

He lead the club to two Football League titles, and glory in the League Cup, the FA Cup, and the Fairs Cup. He also captained the side in the European Cup final in 1975.

The Scot returned as manager in October 1985 and remained at the helm until late September 1988. During that time his side reached the FA Cup semi-final and came within a whisker of a return to the top division.



"Billy was everything this club is all about," said Eddie Gray, a team-mate of Billy throughout his time at Leeds.

"That's why when you walk out of Elland Road there is a statue of him.

"His spirit lives on with the club and with the fans. The anthem Marching On Together, that was Billy.

"Billy was always so grateful that he had the chance to play for and manage this club.

"He was such a great character and a leader and he just loved playing football. When you think about the goals he scored - he would always pop up in big games just when it was needed. He was inspired.

"You still can't believe he's not here. You thought he would be around forever. He is missed by his old team-mates and by the club.

"People at this football club will never forget Billy Bremner."
