SCULPTOR RESTORES WEE BILLY

Billy Bremner Statue re-coloured and restored...

Restoration of Billy

The sculptor of the Billy Bremner statue returned to Elland Road this week on a restoration mission.

Frances Segelman, who produced the statue in 1999, has re-coloured the focal point which sits on the corner of Elland Road, adjacent to the East Stand.

The statue has long been a magnet for Leeds fans and, earlier this month, it was turned into a shrine for Leeds United supporters Chris Loftus and Keving Speight, who lost their lives in Turkey 10 years ago.

Leeds-based Frances says she is proud of the statue, but was keen to restore it to its original glory.

"I find it amazing how the fans love it so very much," Frances told the YEP.

"It's a great feeling for me to know it's being treasured by people.

"I now plan to start coming back every couple of years to recolour it, I'm not going to let it get dowdy and dull.

"I know a lot of sculptures look like that but I think colour can really bring them to life."

Many fans may not remember the original look in 1999 which saw Billy sporting a dash of colour. The pictures below are from 2001.
