Crysencio Wins Championship Player of the Season Award

Leeds star wins top Championship award

With 17 goals and 8 assists in the league this season, Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville was named the EFL's Championship Player of the Year on Sunday evening.

The 22 year old who has been in impressive form for the Whites this season, saw off competition from Leicester City's Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Blackburn's Sammie Szmodics for the coveted award.

Playing on the left wing in Daniel Farke's side, Summerville kicked off his goalscoring tally in the season opener against Cardiff, before going on to play a pivotal role in Leeds' battle for promotion.

Impressive performances against Norwich, Huddersfield, Rotherham and Swansea, as well as a string of Player of the Match awards, quickly catapulted the Dutch star into contention for the season's top award.

Speaking to efl.com after being handed, Summerville said of the award "I'm on another level than before. The manager plays a big role and I'm happy with the manager and how he treats the players. We have a young group but it's been a good season so far.

"When we went down, I thought I was going to stay at Leeds and help the team to get back to where they belong and I'm happy I can help the team with my assists and goals. The Championship is very difficult and it's very tough but I am enjoying it because I like games."
