Dan James: Eight massive games to go

Thoughts from the winger after Millwall success.

Leeds United winger Dan James was back on the scoresheet at the weekend as the Whites brushed aside Millwall, to go into the international break top of the Sky Bet Championship standings.

Italian forward Willy Gnonto got the ball rolling with a stunning left-footed strike from distance in the first half, before the Wales international wrapped things up after the break with a composed finish in front of the Revie Stand.

After the match, James gave his thoughts on the game to the media, reflecting on another important win.

“It feels great to have another win going into the international break,” the 26-year-old said.

“But we can’t get carried away, there are still eight massive games to go and we will be looking forward to them after this break.

“Millwall sat off quite a bit and Willy scored a great goal to unlock them. I think when it is only one-nil you feel they might get that one chance, but I think we did well to nullify that today.

"They had a few shots and Illan made some good saves. When I came on it was about what impact I could make.

“It gives us that confidence for when we get back knowing we went into the international break with a win. We have got to keep this unbeaten run going towards the end of the season and keep the clean sheets coming."

James is now heading off on international duty with fellow teammates Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon and Connor Roberts, with the aim to qualify for the Euro 2024 tournament this summer.

“Ahead of Wales’ match against Finland, we are obviously feeling confident, but it isn’t going to be an easy game," Dan said.

"It is good that we have the home tie, but we have played them before and they aren’t an easy team to beat.

“We have had a joke with Glen [Kamara] about it. It is friendly banter but when we go into Thursday’s game, we will leave that off the pitch.

“We were unfortunate to not qualify earlier but we know we have done it before so we are fully confident, we just have to believe in ourselves.”
