Ahead of the Dominican Republic latest squad being announced, the national side's social media accounts were abuzz on Monday afternoon, when they announced that Leeds United defender Junior Firpo will join them for March's fixtures against Aruba and Peru.

Born in the Dominican's capital, Santo Domingo, Firpo originally played for the Los Quisqueyanos in a non-FIFA friendly in 2015 against Brazil's Olympic side, before being called up for and playing four times for Spain's U21s.

After a recent approach from head coach, Marcelo Neveleff, Junior was recently asked by Los Futbolitos duo Angelo and Vincent if he would represent their national team.

The Leeds United left back replied "As you all know, yes I was in talks with the coach, yes he came to see me and yes, I will play for the Dominican Republic. So I'll see you very soon."

Firpo has featured 21 times for Leeds across all competitions this season, contributing with five assists since the start of 2024, helping the side to go unbeaten in the last 12 games.

The Dominican Republic are set to face Aruba on Saturday 23rd March, before facing Peru a few days later at the Estadio Monumental U Marathon on Wednesday 27th March.

March's friendlies will serve as part of the preparations for their World Cup qualifiers which start in June, where Marcelo Neveleff's side will battle it out in a group with Jamaica, Guatemala and Dominica.
