Pascal Struijk: We’re going in the right direction

Defender on Ipswich Town.

Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk spoke exclusively to LUTV ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship clash with Ipswich Town.

The Whites head to Portman Road looking for a first league victory of the season.

Struijk began by reflecting on last Friday’s 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion at Elland Road and believes there is plenty of optimism to take going forwards.

“I think it was really good from us as a side,” said Struijk.

“We did really well, dominated most of the game, created a lot of chances, unfortunately some of these didn’t go in and we conceded a goal which was handball.

“I feel we are controlling most of the games we play and if you look at it from a football perspective, I think we’re going in the right direction and playing good football.

“In general, there were a lot of positives to take from that game and it is now onto the weekend.”

As a defender Struijk is now aiming for both a first clean sheet and victory of the season, but acknowledges it won’t be straight forward against an Ipswich side who have won their opening four matches of the campaign.

“It will be very important for us to get a first clean sheet, as when we get the first one, I’m sure there will be many more.

“It’s good for us as a team if we’re not conceding goals, then we only have to score one to win, as a defender, along with the goalkeepers, we’re most happy with a clean sheet, as long as the strikers do their job too.

“Ipswich have had a great start so far and I don’t think it will be an easy game.

“They’ve just been promoted and like us a few years ago, when we first got promoted to the Premier League, we were flying as well.

“I think it will be a very tough game, we just have to try and do our stuff, break them down, take the three points and hopefully get a clean sheet from there.”
