Leeds United completed the signing of goalkeeper Karl Darlow on Saturday from Newcastle United, with the goalkeeper becoming the club’s second arrival of the summer.

  1. Darlow was born on October 8th 1990, meaning he is now 32-years-old.
  2. He shares the same birthday as another player in the Leeds United squad in Jamie Shackleton (the pair were born nine years apart).
  3. The ‘keeper stands at 6ft 3’ tall, which is 1.90m.
  4. Karl began his first footballing steps with Aston Villa, progressing through the academy from 1998-2006, before joining Nottingham Forest aged 16.
  5. Darlow’s professional debut was against Crystal Palace in the 2010/11 season, after securing an impressive clean sheet in a 3-0 win, the goalkeeper helped to secure the Reds a Play-Off place by winning that game.
  6. From a footballing family, Karl’s grandfather Ken Leek also used to be a professional. Ken, a forward, made over 400 first team appearances in his club career, whilst also representing Wales 13 times as well.
  7. In the 2016/17 season, Darlow made 34 Sky Bet Championship appearances whilst at Newcastle United, helping them to secure promotion as champions of the division.
  8. Darlow was between the posts at St James’ Park in September 2021 against the Whites, playing a crucial part in the Magpies to secure a point, as Leeds had 21 efforts on goal in the 1-1 draw.
  9. Karl was born in Northampton, England.
  10. The goalkeeper has been allocated eight different first-team squad numbers throughout his career. It started with 30, then 38, 43, 12, 28, 27, 1, and 26.
