Sam Allardyce: We’ve come together and got a plan

Head coach previews Man City.

Leeds United face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon (3pm), in Sam Allardyce’s first game in charge.

The newly appointed head coach has overseen training this week ahead of the match, and has been giving his thoughts to the media at Thorp Arch after his first few days with the squad.

He said: “I think that in terms of response, I couldn’t be any more pleased.

“We’ve come together and got a plan together, to start as quickly as possible with the couple of days we’ve had to talk about Man City, and the big task we have in front of us.

“Then we’ve gone onto the training ground and in this room, to analyse the best way to play on Saturday.

“Around that, we’ve been listening to the staff already here about what players can and cannot do, their best positions, how best does he play and then what system does he play the best.

“We’ve done all that and formulated the idea.”

Pep Guardiola’s side are top of the Premier League and aiming to win another Premier League title. Allardyce was asked about his plans for the game.

“It is trying to avoid everything Manchester City do for as long as you can,” he explained.

“But, also, what’s very important is not giving possession away too often. So when you get it, keep it, and if that is the case you can get up the pitch to try create something.

"If you switch off for a minute like West Ham did [on Wednesday night], up until then it was looking good for them, but that’s why City have won nine on the trot.

"They can score many different ways with the quality they have got, so you have to block all the opportunities they might be able to create and create some ourselves."
