Preview: Chelsea vs Leeds United

Whites return to Premier League action.

Leeds United are back in Premier League action this weekend, taking on Chelsea away from home on Saturday afternoon (3pm).

The Whites were knocked out of the Emirates FA Cup at Fulham in midweek but put in a pleasing performance. They now return to West London on Saturday, aiming to do the double over their upcoming opponents for this season.

The hosts are not having the season that their high standards usually show. Chelsea sit 10th in the Premier League table up to now, having only won eight of their 24 top-flight matches.

When the two sides met at Elland Road earlier in the season, a commanding and memorable victory came for Leeds United - who ran out 3-0 winners on the day following goals from Brenden Aaronson, Rodrigo and Jack Harrison.

Leeds were boosted last time out with an important home victory over Southampton. Junior Firpo’s second half winner secured the three points and moved the side out of the relegation places.

Chelsea come into the match with no wins in five, having lost their last two and drawing three prior to that. There is still time remaining in the season though for Graham Potter’s side to make progress towards a spot in European competition next season.

One stat that the Blues can point towards is goals scored. The lack of a prolific scorer this season has seen them net just 23 times in the league, which is six less than Leeds. Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz are level on six each, but there has been a lack of goals from elsewhere.

Leeds also need to find goals, having missed a number of chances in Tuesday night’s defeat to Fulham, despite creating many. Top-scorer Rodrigo remains on the sidelines with injury.

With the season well into the second half of the campaign, all points are now important and new head coach Javi Gracia is concentrating on getting as many on the board, game by game, urging the team to keep their focus.
