Seamus Coleman's second half strike secured Everton all three points against Leeds United at Goodison Park.
Leeds started brightly winning a couple of corners, however it was the hosts who had the first opportunity with Amadou Onana striking wide from distance.
Whilst both sides applied pressure, chances were hard to come by until the 30th minute. Idrissa Gueye did well on the right flank to break into the box and found Onana on the edge, but he couldn’t keep his first time strike down.
Leeds threatened a minute later when Patrick Bamford tried his luck from 20 yards, but he could only pull his shot wide.
Jack Harrison was next to try his luck, with a long range strike, which defelcted and was well saved by Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal.
In the 33rd minute, Everton went very close to taking the lead from a Dwight McNeil corner, with Conor Coady having his header cleared off the line by Max Wober and Neal Maupay seeing his header then cleared off the line by Weston McKennie.
Everton again threatened from another set-piece, this time James Tarkowski saw a header well saved by Illan Meslier.
A confrontation between the two sides led to bookings for McKennie, Tyler Adams, McNeil and Adboulaye Doucoure, before Crysencio Summerville headed over in first half stoppage time, as the two sides went in level.

Leeds made one change at the break with Rasmus Kristensen replacing Wober, but it was the visitors who had a decent chance to take the lead five minutes into the second period. Alex Iwobi found McNeil with a cross, but he could only volley wide.
The Whites went close shortly after, breaking up the pitch Harrison entered the box and put in a low cross, for Bamford who was well placed, but he couldn’t connect with it.
Vitalii Mykolenko put a good cross in for the left which found Maupay, but his shot on the turn was well saved by Meslier, before the Ukranian saw an effort of his own stopped.
The hosts got the crucial goal in the 64th minute, Coleman made a forward run down the right and he latched onto a long ball and was able to find the net from a very narrow angle, deceiving Leeds goalkeeper Meslier.
Tarkowski headed off target from a corner for the hosts, before substitute Georgino Rutter saw a shot blocked.
The hosts nearly added a second late on through Doucoure and in stoppage time, in what proved to be a miserable afternoon for the Whites on the road.
