Michael Skubala: The players are excited to go to Goodison Park

Michael Skubala spoke to the media ahead of Leeds United’s Premier League trip to Everton on Saturday.

The Whites head to Goodison Park, knowing a win would take Leeds four points above the Blues who currently occupy the final relegation place.

Skubala admitted that is the sole aim this weekend, given the situation of the two sides.

“It’s an opportunity for us to try and get another three points and that’s all I’m focused on,” said Skubala.

“I’m focused on Everton and then if we do well I’m focused on the next game.

“There are still a lot of games to go, I think we need to pick up points, so they are important games as always.

“I do think there are enough games to pick up points, but the next two are huge games and every game in the Premier League is a huge game.

“The players are excited to go to Goodison Park and try to get three points.”

Skubala also gave an update on team news ahead of the trip this weekend.

He said: “We still have the long term ones which we are trying to work hard on to get back fit.

“Pascal Struijk has been back in training following his concussion which is a positive.

“Liam Cooper and Marc Roca are touch and go, they’re not far off and we could see them on Saturday.

“We don’t want to take any risks with any players at this moment, but they are a couple who could be back.”

It was also announced on Thursday that Luke Ayling has extended his contract and Skubala was pleased with the news.

“All of the players are important to this group, they are a really good group of players.

“Luke first and foremost is a great person to have around, he’s very professional and a great leader in the dressing room and a bit of a legend at the club.

“So I’m really pleased personally, for him professionally, and for the club, that they could get an extension out of him.

“It’s always important you have good leaders to support the young players and good leaders to do things the right way.

“Luke is one of those for me, he does things the right way and is always really positive.

“It’s also important to have good performances as leaders and I think that has been shown over the last couple of games.”
