Leeds United have been saddened to learn of the passing of former goalkeeper Roy Wood at the age of 92.

Born in Wallasey, Merseyside on 16^th October 1930, Wood had stints at New Brighton and Clitheroe, before joining Leeds United in 1952.

He made his debut against Derby County in a 3-1 victory on 24^th October 1953 in the Second Division and went on to make a total of 204 outings between the sticks in all competitions during his time at Elland Road.

The shot-stopper was ever present for Leeds during the 1955/56 season, in which the club won promotion to the First Division after finishing as runners-up in the second tier.

He went on to enjoy four more seasons with Leeds in the top-flight, with his final game coming against Newcastle United on 13^th February 1960.

Wood returned to Elland Road for the club’s centenary celebrations held in 2019, marking 100 years of Leeds United, whilst also still enjoyed attending games with his family.
