Preview: Leeds United vs Manchester City

A return to Premier League action.

Leeds United are back in Premier League action on Wednesday evening, when they take on Manchester City.

Both the Whites and Blues have been without a match since the middle of November, due to the break for the World Cup. They will now restart their campaigns under the lights at Elland Road, in this 8pm kick-off.

Jesse Marsch and Pep Guardiola come up against one another in what will be as always, an intense battle. Leeds have played 14 matches up to now and have won four, drawn three and lost seven.

The visitors have also played 14 games, winning 10, drawing two and losing two. Just three of those wins have been on the road which is a record the six time Premier League winners will want to improve upon.

During the winter break, United played three friendly matches against top-tier opposition around Europe. All three were tough encounters and allowed a number of players to gain vital minutes, as they picked up wins against Elche CF and Real Sociedad, before a closely-contested defeat to AS Monaco.

City were also in action recently. They played Girona and ran out winners by two goals to nil, whilst they then had a competitive clash with Liverpool in the Carabao Cup, beating them in an entertaining five-goal encounter.

In this clash, two of the top five scorers in the division will face off against one another. Erling Haaland has been a stand-out performer since his summer arrival with City, he has 18 goals in the league to his name, along with three assists from his 13 matches.

However, United have a striker in form of their own, who will be looking to continue his fine start to the season. Spanish international Rodrigo has scored nine goals, with one assist, from 13 games up to now.

Coming into the match, both teams will be looking to improve their league positions and they can move up the table if they are to secure the three points at Elland Road.

Leeds have two games in hand over many of the teams around them in the table. Marsch’s side currently sit 15th but could go above Aston Villa into 12th with a win.

City are in third place at the moment but like their upcoming hosts, they have games in hand on others around them. A win would put them back into second place and would also close the gap to top of the table Arsenal.
