Brian McDermott hails his players...

Brian McDermott says he is proud of the way his players have focused on the task in hand in recent weeks.

United are currently unbeaten in three and have won the last two matches; an impressive 5-1 demolition of Huddersfield Town and an away win at Yeovil Town in difficult weather conditions.

“You have got to be proud of the team and the way they have gone about the last two games,” said the boss.

“Saturday was a tough game in very difficult conditions. It was an important result that keeps us in the mix.

“It was really difficult to get out during the first half and Yeovil found that out in the second half of the game. It was tough to clear our lines but we still had a couple of opportunities to score.

“In the last four games I felt that the shape of the team was better. I thought that we were unfortunate to lose the Leicester game, I thought that we did enough to win it.

“Then there was nothing in the Ipswich game and then the last two games we have got six points so we’re happy.”

The boss admits that excuses could have been made in recent weeks, but with Brighton United’s next destination he is adamant no excuses will be made and is wanting his side to continue in the same vein.

“It is easy to make excuses and we could have made excuses these past few weeks with everything that has gone on off the pitch," he added.

“We’re not looking to make excuses, we are just looking to perform.

“Whatever is thrown at us it is important that we do what we have to do and we have done that during the last two games.

“At this moment we are concentrating solely on our next game which is Brighton on Tuesday.”
