UNITED AIM TO EXTEND RUN

Brian McDermott looks ahead to Brighton trip…

Brian McDermott's men will head to Brighton on Tuesday (7.45pm) hoping to extend the current run of form.

United head to the south coast in confident mood, having picked up seven points from a possible nine, including wins against Huddersfield and Yeovil.

Our two previous trips to the Amex Stadium have ended in draws, and Tuesday's clash should be another evenly fought contest.

“I know his team and I know how they are going to play,” said the manager. “They do try and play by passing it out from the back.

“They had a lot of opportunities against Doncaster. I watched their last game on the coach down to Brighton and we have a plan to try and get the right result.

“They have been trying to get themselves into the Premier League for a couple of years now and I’m sure they will be trying again this season.

“Our last two wins have been essential and we have taken seven points from the last nine and that has put us right back in amongst it.”

Tuesday night sees the reverse of United’s season opener and the manager has fond memories of the 2-1 defeat of Brighton.

“The first game of the season feels like an awful long time ago,” added the boss. “It was a special day inside a packed Elland Road and it was a lovely day.

“We scored the goal in the last minute of the game and you couldn’t have written a better script.

“Now we are looking forward to going to Brighton and getting the right result.”
