ONE SPOT UP FOR GRABS?

Elland Road legend Peter Lorimer believes Leeds United are one of six clubs scrapping it out to secure sixth spot in the Championship.

With fifth placed Nottingham Forest opening up a seven point gap ahead of sixth-placed Reading, Lorimer says competition will be fierce for what he reckons will be the only available spot come May.

“I think that there is only one Play-Off spot up for grabs as I look at the league now,” he said.

“The top five have broken away from the rest, but you are always hopeful. You always have to think that we can get there. It keeps your season alive.

“Nobody wants to go into March with the season over and have nothing to play for.”

United are on the sidelines this weekend with the scheduled clash with Charlton postponed, and Brian McDermott’s side don’t return to action until February 22 with a televised trip to Middlesbrough.

“The Middlesbrough game is a good chance for us to get three points,” said Lorimer.

“We have done well at Middlesbrough in the past and it is a happy hunting ground. These things can repeat themselves. We have got to go there and go there with confidence.

“This is a good game to win because we know that the QPR game the week after is going to be a tough one. This is a game that we have to try and get three points out of.

“You could then go to QPR hoping for three points but if you nick one you will think that has been a good return.”
