CONSISTENCY THE AIM FOR SAM

Young defender hoping for strong finish to season…

United defender Sam Byram says that he has more to give to the side as he looks to bring consistency to his game for the final Championship run in.

The young full-back admits to finding the early parts of the campaign frustrating due to fitness issues but he is determined to improve as the season goes on.

“I still think that I have got more to give in terms of consistency,” said Sam, who has now started the last five United matches.

“That comes with games and I’m sure, if I'm lucky enough to play that will come.

“It’s been frustrating being in and out of the team and having a few niggles. I am just trying to get back to where I was last year to improve and kick on.

“I think that we are more optimistic than ever. We are all still in a good mood and we just want to get back to a winning run and try to finish the season strongly.”

Sam insists that United’s season isn’t over yet and the 20-year-old is hoping to mount a Play-Off push with a positive result at Middlesbrough on Saturday (12:15pm) in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

“It is never out of reach, especially in this league”, added Sam. “There have been surprises in the past with results. We are just looking to the next game and then the games after that.

“I think that every game will be tough from now until the end of the season. We’ll prepare for each game specifically and set up a team that will do a job against them.

“We’ll go to Middlesbrough and do our best and hopefully we’ll get the three points.

“You want to win every game but sometimes when it is out of reach it is good to get a draw. For instance a draw down at Brighton would have been a good result. But wins are what get you maximum points and points are what get you up the table.”
