Thompson equaliser earns EDS a point...

A Zac Thompson goal secured the Development Squad a point against Barnsley at Thorp Arch on Monday.

Thompson struck just before the hour-mark to cancel Barnsley’s opener just before half-time.

Neil Redfearn’s side dominated the game in terms of possession, but failed to turn that superiority into goals.

Thompson, skipper Chris Dawson, and Lewis Walters all tried their luck in the first half, but it was Barnsley who nicked the lead moments before half-time, following a quick break.

United were more controlled in the second period, and after Walters went close, Thompson levelled matters with a strike from outside of the box.

Barnsley had a chance almost immediately, which Alex Cairns saved, but the visitors were restricted to counter-attacks during the closing stages as United dominated play.

Alex Mowatt and Dawson both went close while Lewie Coyle and substitute Luke Booker were big threats down the right. Coyle supplied some good balls into the box, but with no one on hand to apply the finishing touch the game was destined for a draw.

There was one final chance, with the last kick of the game, but Walters was denied.

United: Cairns, Coyle, Drury, Thompson, Zaliukas, Bryan, Parkin (Booker), Mowatt, Poleon (Roper), Walters, Dawson.
