BRIAN\'S QPR VERDICT

Brian McDermott gives his verdict on the QPR draw…

United boss Brian McDermott was disappointed not to have taken all three points from the weekend’s trip to Queen Park Rangers.

United took the lead in the game when Ross McCormack scored with a great free-kick only for Jermaine Jenas to level the contest just before the break.

Both sides had chances to steal maximum points in the second half but the manager insists a point at Loftus Road is a positive.

“Coming to a game at QPR you think that you would take a point,” said the boss. “With the way the game panned out we are disappointed that we didn’t win.

“In the first half they didn’t really cause us too many problems but they scored just before half time. We are disappointed we didn’t take all three points.

“I thought that we played well. I thought we were solid as a group. It got a little bit ragged in the second half but we came back into the game right at the end and I thought that we could have nicked it.

“We would have been very disappointed to have walked away from there with nothing.”

Saturday saw Connor Wickham make his United debut and the boss was impressed with how he linked up with his skipper Ross McCormack.

“We think that we are improving, and there are obvious reasons that we are improving,” added the manager. “The shape of the team is better and with Connor coming in, he made a big difference on Saturday.

“I thought that the combination between Connor and Ross was automatic and very natural. They did some really good things and Connor was unlucky not to score himself. He is a really good young player.

“And Ross McCormack answered everything that you need to know about Ross McCormack.

“He misses the penalty and then he puts a free-kick down and scores. I knew that he’d score and he put in the top corner.”
