Preview: Crystal Palace (H)

We look at Monday's fixture.

Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United side face Crystal Palace on Monday evening (8pm).

This is the first time the club’s have met at Elland Road in the Premier League since the 1997/98 campaign. That season finished with a victory each against one another, with a final score of 2-0 in both matches.

The Eagles arrive in 13th place in the table, two places behind the Whites, but level on points meaning an eight-goal gap in ‘goal difference’ is the only separation.

Palace have recorded back-to-back victories and will be coming to West Yorkshire in search of another. They will have to do that without their star man and top-scorer, Wilfried Zaha.

The tricky forward - who has scored nine so far this campaign - was injured in the victory over Newcastle United. Like Palace, Leeds’ last victory also came at a cost with the injury to Rodrigo against Leicester City.

From 11 matches away from home thus far, Roy Hodgson’s side have recorded four victories, two draws and five losses. The former England manager’s side have a reputation on their travels, with it coming as no surprise anymore that they can counter quickly and pick up the three points against top teams.

For Leeds, like so many other outfits this season, it has not been easy on home turf. The last two matches at Elland Road have ended in defeat by single goals, so Bielsa’s side will be looking to get back to winning ways this evening.

A win for the Whites could see them go above Arsenal and into 10th place. Palace will be attempting to move up three positions, also having the ability to jump above Arsenal into 10th should they win the game. A draw would see them move above Southampton into 12th.

Team news

Rodrigo and Ian Poveda are still going to be missing for Leeds following their recent injuries. Diego Llorente & Robin Koch remain out, but Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed that Gaetano Berardi will return to training this week.

For Palace, star man Wilfried Zaha will be missing after picking up an injury in the midweek win over Newcastle United. Other than that, the visitors should be at full strength.

The key battle

Raphinha vs Patrick van Aanholt

Two tricky players full of pace, that will be up against each other down the same side of the Elland Road pitch.Raphinha now has four assists and four goals to his name this season, showing that he is a threat at every moment.

Both players love to attack, but their roles in the team also means they are required to be defensively strong as well. If either of them spot an opportunity to run into space or try to take each other on, they will go for it.
